How we behave in different groups

At one moment in our life or the other we all have been a member of a group. Some of these groups we don't choose freely, like our families. But there are also other groups we choose to be a part of, like sports clubs, religious clubs or political parties. Therefore, a family, a village, a political party, a trade union are all social groups.

Peer groups are also a type of social group, one which can be very important for adolescents and young people. Belonging to a group is very significant, as it makes us feel good about ourselves and improves self-esteem. However sometimes, peer groups might have negative impact on us as young people.

In this session we will learn more about social groups, types of social groups, peer pressure, how peer pressure can positively or negatively affect our health and development and how to resist negative peer pressure.
